Corning unveiled Gorilla Glass Ceramic, and this guy can offer improved performance that it can even survive up to 10 repeated drops from a one-meter height onto an asphalt surface. Let’s get into the depth.
Corning Gorilla Glass Ceramic
As per Corning, the Gorilla Glass Ceramic offers better durability and much more resistance to damage from impacts than the existing aluminosilicate glass. As I have mentioned previously, the company made a bold claim that Gorilla Glass Ceramic can survive up to 10 drops from one meter onto an asphalt surface. We can see this as a significant improvement compared to aluminosilicate, which typically breaks after just one drop.
But......
It's important to note that the company conducted this test in controlled lab conditions, and we can't be sure how it will perform in real-world situations. However, we can't deny the fact that it is still an upgrade over existing options.
Gorilla Glass Ceramic is not only made for smartphones but also for cameras, smartwatches, and wearables. As for availability, Corning confirmed that the first smartphone to feature Gorilla Glass Ceramic will likely come from Motorola.
While we are not sure about the exact device, I think it's a model from the Motorola 60 series which is launching soon. The release is expected in the coming months. This is part of a partnership Motorola announced back in February where they revealed that all of their upcoming devices would feature Gorilla Glass.
