Check out the major highlights of NTC's 21st anniversary here!
Nepal Telecom (NTC) celebrated its 21st anniversary on Magh 22, 2081. At this event, the company highlighted NTC's progress while introducing new services and announcing the NTC 21st Anniversary offer. In this article, we’ll dive into the key highlights from the celebration.

Major Highlights of NTC's 21st Anniversary

The anniversary event took place at the company’s central office, with Communication Minister Prithvi Subba Gurung as the chief guest. The major highlights of the event included the closure of 2G 1800MHz, the announcement of VoWiFi, offering 25% of shares to the public, various data packs, and the activation of eSIM online. Let’s explore each of these in more detail.

Nepal Telecom to discontinue 2G 1800MHz service

As part of its 21st anniversary celebration, NTC announced it would discontinue its 2G service on the 1800MHz frequency band. Moreover, Managing Director Sangeeta Pahadi shared that the company is focusing on expanding its 4G services nationwide. Currently, 4G is available in 744 local levels across all 77 districts, with 4,324 out of 4,697 operational locations providing 4G coverage. Additionally, NTC is making progress in preparing for 5G services, with the business strategy nearing completion and the report at its final stage.

25% of NTC shares to be offered to the public

Minister of Communication and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung, announced that the government is preparing to offer 25% of Nepal Telecom’s shares to the general public. For now, the government holds 92% of NTC’s shares, while the public owns 8%. The move aims to reduce the government's stake in the company and enhance its effectiveness by involving more public ownership.

eSIM activation is now available online

NTC users can now upgrade to an eSIM online, a convenience that was not available before. Previously, users had to visit NTC counters to activate the eSIM. Now, they can complete the process using the NTC app or website from the comfort of their home.

Here's how you can upgrade to an online sim:
      • First, open the Nepal Telecom mobile app.
      • Your SIM should have a minimum balance of 50 rupees.
      • Next, go to the e-SIM option visible on the homepage.
      • After this, you will be directed to the website prepared by Telecom for e-SIM.
      • Then, in the box labeled "Mobile Number," enter the mobile number that needs to be converted to an e-SIM.
      • Click on the "Send OTP" button.
      • You will then receive an OTP code in your message. Enter this OTP code in the box labeled "Enter 6-digit code."
      • A new page will then open. In the second option on that page, you will need to enter your citizenship number. Type the citizenship number associated with the SIM.
      • Finally, in the last box, select the district where your citizenship was issued.
      • After doing this, tap on the "Verify My Details" option.
Note: If all the details are correct, Telecom will send a QR code on that page. By scanning the QR code with a device that supports e-SIM, the e-SIM will be activated, and your physical SIM will be deactivated.

      NTC launches VoWiFi (WiFi Calling)
