Huawei rebranded its P-series of phones into the Pura lineup and launched the first rendition over half a year ago. These phones made their names for their exceptional photography capabilities. Now the Chinese tech giant is preparing to have a go at it once again. Let's take a look at what we know about the Huawei Pura 80 series so far.
Huawei Pura 80 Rumour Round-up
Cracking Cameras, of course
Adding to the standards set by its predecessor, the Huawei Pura 80 series will continue to have outstanding cameras. For reference, the Pura 70 had a one-inch retractable lens while maintaining a sleek and lightweight design.
We heard the news that the upcoming Huawei phone will have the OmniVision OV50X sensor, which is popular for its large photosensitive area and LOFIC technology. However, fresh rumors suggest that Huawei might develop a self-made triple-camera system for the Pura 80 which could feature a main camera and periscope lens. Additionally, the periscope sensor is touted as the "best" and "largest" in its class, with a 1/1.3" sensor size.
Moreover, there is gossip that the company is also working on its first 1-inch CMOS (complementary metal-oxide semiconductor) sensor. These CMOS sensors are more power-efficient than alternatives like CCD sensors, offering better battery performance.
The Huawei Pura 80 will likely have the Kirin 9100 processor powering it. Its predecessor had the Kirin 9010 as its primary driver, which with its 7nm fabbing was a far cry from a flagship experience. However, for this in-work chip, Huawei apparently figured out 5nm nodes by partnering with SMIC. Additionally, the Kirin 9100 supposedly offers a similar performance to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.
This sounds great, but with the leaps Snapdragon Elite has taken this year, it isn't anywhere near the latest flagship capabilities. Furthermore, Huawei is trying to improve its silicon game by hook or by crook.
All in all, we can expect some advancements from Huawei in the processor department for the Pura 80 series.
Huawei Pura 80 Launch and Availability
As per DCS, the Huawei Pura 80 will launch in the second quarter of 2025. The lineup is expected to include a titular phone, a Pro model, the Pura 80 Pro+, and Pura 80 Ultra. We are still in the initial rumor phase, so there might be changes following the development that goes inside.
