Performance and Memory

Like all other ThinkPad refreshes last year, the X13 Gen 3 is available with 12th Gen Intel Core and AMD Ryzen Pro 6000 series CPUs. The Intel versions boast greater generational performance gains thanks to the "Alder Lake" hybrid architecture. In addition to the usual U-series SKUs, Lenovo offers the laptop with the new P-series processors with more cores and higher TDPs. As a result, there are six CPUs to choose from. In contrast, there are just two AMD processors. The base variant comes with the hexacore Ryzen 5 Pro 6650U, while you can get the Ryzen 7 Pro 6850U if you need the performance from those extra cores. While these two don't have the same performance lift as their Intel counterparts, the new Radeon iGPUs fare better than Intel's Iris Xe.

Memory and Upgradeability

Lenovo ThinkPad X13 Gen 3 ships with the newer LPDDR5 RAM but is clocked differently on different models. It's clocked at 6400MHz on the AMD models— higher than the 4800MHz on the Intel versions. The RAM is soldered to the motherboard, and you can choose between 8GB, 16GB, and 32GB of dual-channel RAM. Likewise, you can get up to 1TB of PCIe Gen 4 SSD.

Productivity and Security Options

The ThinkPad Gen 3 is also part of Lenovo's theme of hybrid workforce. As a result, it improves on communication and connectivity side of things. One key addition to the 2022 model is Dolby Voice which uses dynamic leveling and spatial audio to enhance voices during calls. You can equip the laptop with a new Full HD webcam. Some even have IR sensors for Windows Hello authentication.

Design and Display

Lenovo has added a 54.7 Whr battery with 40% better endurance than the standard 41 Whr option. Because of the different battery sizes, the weight of the laptop ranges from 1.20 to 1.28 kg. Fortunately, there is no such disparity in thickness, although there are three design options. The first features an all-aluminum finish, whereas the other two replace the metal lid of PPS and carbon fiber, respectively. As for the display, Lenovo is continuing the same 16:10 IPS display as last year. You can go with WUXGA or a sharper WQXGA panel. The latter offers more color accuracy, while the former also brings a touch option.
